Residents can purchase trees at a subsidized rate to contribute to city’s greenery.

The City of Richmond is thrilled to announce its annual tree sale, offering residents a chance to enrich their gardens and help expand Richmond’s urban forest. This year’s sale features a diverse array of trees, including new fruit and non-fruit varieties. With 1,000 trees available at a reduced price of $15 each, citizens can easily and affordably beautify their surroundings.

Nine species, chosen for their suitability to Richmond’s urban setting, will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis: assorted apples (M. domestica), assorted fruiting cherries (Prunus spp.), assorted plums (P. domestica), assorted pears (pyrus communis), serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia), vine maple (Acer circinatum), kousa dogwood (Cornus kousa), persimmon (Diospyros kaki), and assorted magnolia (Magnolia spp.).

These nursery-grown trees come in five-gallon pots and range from three to six feet tall. Eligible Richmond residents may purchase up to two trees per household starting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 9, until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, via the MyRichmond online portal.

Residents must select a 90-minute time slot for tree pickup, and detailed information is available at richmond.ca/TreeSale. The subsidized price of $15 per tree is intended to remove cost barriers while partially offsetting city expenses.

Tree pickup is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the City of Richmond Works Yard, 5599 Lynas Lane. Pickup will occur during the chosen time slot, rain or shine, with staff providing guidance and resources on planting.

The City continues to support sustainable tree management, expanding the urban forest annually by planting trees through capital projects in both new and current parks, such as Minoru Lakes Renewal and Terra Nova Rural Park.
