The city honors local Olympians for their achievements in Paris
The City of Richmond, known for its legacy as a host venue during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, recently spotlighted local Olympic talent, recognizing three athletes who competed in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. During a ceremony on September 9, Mayor Malcolm Brodie presented Camryn Rogers, Evan Dunfee, and Nicholas Zhang with Certificates of Achievement. Rogers made history by securing Canada’s first Olympic gold medal in women’s track and field in nearly a century in the hammer throw. She has a distinguished background, including winning at the 2023 World Championships and the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Evan Dunfee, a seasoned Olympic race walker, finished fifth in the 20km race in Paris, adding to his previous accolades, which include a bronze medal in the 50km race walk at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and a gold in the 10,000 meters at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Zhang, who is studying at Harvard University, was represented by his father, Martin, at the event, as he made his debut in épée fencing in Paris. Zhang is one of the youngest athletes in the world-ranked Men’s épée Top 100. The City of Richmond invites the public to meet Rogers and Dunfee on September 15 at the Minoru Centre for Active Living, where they will engage with their community in a public event organized with Kajaks Track & Field Club.
