Richmond residents invited to contribute to community planning efforts.
RICHMOND, B.C. (AP) — The City of Richmond is urging its residents to engage in updating its Official Community Plan (OCP), with several opportunities for public input scheduled from September through November. Mayor Malcolm Brodie emphasized the importance of the OCP, which sets out long-term development and land-use goals through 2050, highlighting the focus on housing affordability and environmental protection. The current OCP, set until 2041, has been undergoing updates since its 2012 inception, adapting to Richmond’s growth and external influences.
The ongoing update aims to address themes such as resiliency, equity, and adaptation with targeted areas in mind. New provincial legislation requires municipalities to review and update OCPs every five years, including projecting the necessary housing units over 20 years.
Residents can participate online through an upcoming survey at LetsTalkRichmond.ca/ocp2050 and express their appreciation for local spots via the ‘Get Snapping’ photo contest, which runs until October 20. In-person engagement includes pop-up booths across the city from September 17 to October 10 at various locations including Kwantlen Farmers Market and Richmond Centre. Further, open house events in November will cover feedback from previous activities and discuss future steps.
Details and further participation information can be found at richmond.ca/ocp-update or by contacting CommunityPlanning@richmond.ca.
