Richmond given more time for infrastructure upgrades before multiplex housing construction.

The Province has extended the deadline for Richmond to comply with rezoning requirements under Bill 44, allowing necessary infrastructure improvements before building multiplexes on single-family lots in parts of Steveston. This extension comes after Richmond’s Council requested more time beyond the original June 30, 2024 deadline to amend zoning for multi-unit housing. The affected area is bordered by Steveston Highway, No. 1 Road, Chatham Street, and 7th Avenue. Further details can be found in the Ministry of Housing’s announcement.
