Richmond’s Public Art Program calls on local organizations to join an artist-led initiative.

RICHMOND, B.C. (AP) — The City’s Public Art Program is inviting Richmond-based non-profit service organizations, including community associations, libraries, and schools, to apply for the upcoming 2025–2026 Engaging Artists in Community Program. This initiative pairs a community partner with an artist or artist team for a creative project spanning six months to a year, commencing in fall 2025, to explore pressing issues through the arts. Each artist project will receive funding of $12,000.

Selected community partners will need to provide venues for various artistic expressions. Artist-led projects can range from public performances, art installations, and workshops to exhibitions, literary works, digital media art, and more.

For more information and to apply, interested parties should visit richmond.ca/PublicArtPrograms. Applications must be submitted by Friday, November 15, 2024. Notifications for selected applicants will be sent in late November 2024. City staff will collaborate with selected partners to develop artist opportunities and participate in the selection process in early 2025. The commissioned projects will focus on engaging culturally diverse and multigenerational audiences.

Projects from the 2024 program included ‘Hidden Stories of the Bioverse’ by Andrea Hoff in cooperation with A.B. Dixon Elementary School, ‘Express Yourself’ by Keely O’Brien with Aspire Richmond and Richmond Public Library, and ‘Visions of Biophilia’ by Desirée Patterson in collaboration with the Richmond Nature Park Society.

Organizations interested in participating are advised to contact PublicArt@richmond.ca or call 604-204-8671 before application submission.
