Richmond to Host Events and Launch Positive Aging Campaign on October 1
The City of Richmond and its community partners are set to honor National Seniors Day on Tuesday, October 1, with a series of events and activities promoting healthy aging. Over ten events will be held, including social gatherings, pickleball tournaments, a movie screening at Brighouse Library, and an intergenerational art workshop. Additionally, the annual Positive Aging Campaign will spotlight six local seniors as role models for positive aging. Attendees are required to pre-register, as space is limited. Complete details and registration can be accessed at richmond.ca/PositiveAging, with printed flyers available at Richmond’s Parks, Recreation and Culture facilities. Highlights on October 1 include National Seniors Day Socials, an indoor pickleball tournament for beginners at Thompson Community Centre, an intergenerational art workshop at Hamilton Community Centre, a line dancing social at South Arm Community Centre, and a special screening of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ at Richmond Public Library. The Positive Aging Campaign, running from October 1 to October 7, aims to celebrate seniors, encourage healthy aging, and combat ageism by sharing inspiring stories of six community seniors. National Seniors Day aligns with the International Day of Older Persons by the United Nations, celebrated annually on October 1 across Canada. Richmond, an age-friendly community, supports healthy aging through year-round programs and activities for seniors. Program guides are available at richmond.ca/seniors or local community centers.
