Community participation sought for city’s upcoming street beautification effort.

Richmond is calling on its residents to select the winning designs for street banners that will be displayed next year. Through LetsTalkRichmond.ca, locals can influence the city’s aesthetic by voting for their preferred designs from this year’s 20 finalists in the vibrant street banner contest. The public can view and vote on the designs via Richmond’s website at richmond.ca/banners or by emailing parksprograms@richmond.ca. Votes are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024.

The contest garnered 585 submissions, representing Richmond’s essence across themes like Arts, Culture and Heritage; Community; Diversity; Island City; Nature; Play; Sports and Recreation; Sustainability; Urban Landscape; and Wildlife. A panel of Richmond artists reduced the entries to 20 finalists. The top 10 designs, as voted by the public, will be the winners for the 2025 Street Banner Contest.

Winning designs will feature on over 1,000 street banners, showcased from March 2025 to February 2026, enriching the downtown and gateway areas.

This contest is part of the broader Partners for Beautification initiative, encouraging community member engagement in Richmond’s beautification projects. Additional details are available at richmond.ca/beautification.
