Event celebrates innovation with focus on future economic growth
Transformative technologies in climate action, mobility, energy, and fashion were highlighted at the City of Richmond’s 2024 Business and Partner Appreciation Event, emphasizing the need for human talent and collaboration. Over 100 local business leaders gathered at Kwantlen Polytechnic University on October 3 to explore these advancements. Mayor Malcolm Brodie acknowledged Richmond businesses’ adoption of such technologies, underlining their role in positioning the community for future success. During his keynote, Jean-François Perrault of Scotiabank noted the improving economic outlook, with a controlled inflation and a soft landing in growth. However, he signaled caution due to high household savings and pending U.S. elections. Panel moderator Paul Tilbury initiated discussions on technology innovations, with MADE Tech’s Cheryl Bond detailing automation in custom fashion and local production resilience. Matthew Anderson of A&K Robotics discussed autonomous pods’ role in enhancing indoor mobility, while Robert Crystal from General Fusion shared insights on advancing fusion energy. Mayor Brodie praised local businesses for their contributions to Richmond’s economy and livability.
