City officials underscore zero-tolerance policy on fireworks without permits

The City of Richmond and Richmond Fire-Rescue are alerting residents to the ban on possessing, purchasing, selling, or igniting fireworks and firecrackers in the city without a permit. According to Richmond’s Fire Protection and Life Safety Bylaw 8306, fines are imposed as follows: $1,000 for purchasing fireworks, $1,000 for displaying fireworks for sale, $1,000 for selling or distributing fireworks, and $400 for igniting them without a permit. Richmond Fire-Rescue, alongside City Bylaw Enforcement and Richmond RCMP, acknowledges the inherent dangers of fireworks. City officials will be patrolling the community to prevent illegal fireworks activities and other safety concerns during festivals. Despite recognizing that residents may want to use fireworks for celebrations, the city enforces a zero-tolerance policy. Authorities are asking for communal cooperation to maintain a harmonious environment. Report fireworks-related incidents to the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212.
