Review of Steveston lane parking pilot program, recommendations for its modification, and exploration of new commercial truck parking areas.
The General Purposes Committee reviewed a report on the Steveston Village lane parking pilot program. Due to low uptake and negative feedback from the Steveston Merchants Association, staff recommended, and the committee endorsed, Option 2B: maintaining four permit parking stalls for existing users, converting the remaining stalls to free, 3-hour time-limited public parking. A comprehensive parking study for Steveston is underway, with results expected in Q3 2025. Separately, a motion was made to direct staff to explore additional potential commercial truck parking locations in Richmond and develop new policies to address current truck parking challenges, with a report back to council within three months.
