Community initiatives planned to raise awareness against bullying.
Richmond, British Columbia, invites residents to wear pink on February 26 in observance of Pink Shirt Day, an initiative to promote kindness and increase awareness against bullying. Participants include the City of Richmond, Richmond School District No. 38, Richmond Fire-Rescue, Richmond RCMP, and Richmond Public Library. Activities scheduled around February 26 include a bullying impact exhibit at Cambie Community Centre, anti-bullying bulletin boards at South Arm Community Centre, interactive sessions at City Centre Community Centre, specific book displays at Richmond Public Library branches, and Richmond Fire-Rescue personnel donning pink epaulettes. The Richmond School District encourages schools to utilize resources online, such as Pink Shirt Day and SOGI123 websites. Richmond RCMP’s Community Engagement Team, including the Youth Section, is visiting schools to spread the message. For a complete list of events, visit richmond.ca/PinkShirtDay. Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 when students Travis Price and David Shepherd supported a bullied peer by distributing pink shirts, inspiring a global anti-bullying movement.
