City Hall honors artists for their winning street banner designs

Richmond City Council recognized 10 local artists for their winning designs in the annual street banner contest at a ceremony in City Hall Council Chambers on March 10, 2025. The winning images will be featured on more than 1,000 banners displayed on light poles throughout the city from March 2025 to February 2026. This year’s contest garnered 585 submissions, each adhering to one of ten themes including Arts, Culture, and Heritage; Community; and Sustainability. A panel of local artists selected 20 finalists, with Richmond residents voting for their top 10 favorite designs through the City’s ‘Let’s Talk Richmond’ engagement website, collecting over 6,700 votes. The winning designs can be viewed online and are displayed in the Richmond City Hall atrium. Previous years’ banners and recycled bags are available for purchase at the Richmond Nature Park. The Street Banner program, part of the Partners for Beautification initiative, aims to foster community engagement in beautifying Richmond.
