Community engagement to guide long-term tourism strategy until April 30

Residents of Richmond are encouraged to offer their perspectives on the future of the city’s tourism sector starting today through April 30 as part of developing the city’s inaugural Tourism Master Plan. The plan aims to strengthen Richmond as a travel destination while benefiting both the community and its visitors. This strategic initiative is led by the City of Richmond in partnership with Tourism Richmond and the Richmond Hotel Association. “Tourism, sports, and business events are pivotal in molding Richmond into a vibrant community,” Mayor Malcolm Brodie expressed. “The Tourism Master Plan, steered by a shared community vision, is crafted to serve both residents and visitors effectively in the long term.” The plan’s development involves thorough consultation with local residents, businesses, and tourism professionals. It will also feature an evaluation of Richmond’s destination assets and opportunities, as well as fundamental priorities to reinforce the tourism sector over the next decade. “Partnering with the City of Richmond to draft a mutual roadmap ensures our continued prosperity as a travel destination,” stated Nancy Small, CEO of Tourism Richmond. “Successful travel destinations involve local communities, recognizing that desirable places of residence also attract visitors.” Opportunities for public participation include both in-person and online sessions scheduled for March and April: In-person pop-up events will be held Saturdays from April 5 to 19 at various locations, complete with Mandarin, Cantonese, and Punjabi translators. Additionally, an online survey will be available until April 30. The Tourism Master Plan is expected to conclude by Winter 2025-2026.
