Mayor expresses sympathy for victims of Vancouver festival incident
On behalf of the City of Richmond and its Council, we express our deepest condolences to those affected by the tragic event at Vancouver’s Lapu-Lapu Day festival on Saturday, April 26. The incident, which claimed the lives of eleven members of the Filipino Canadian community and left many others injured, has profoundly impacted us. Richmond stands in mourning with our neighbors in Vancouver and the broader Filipino community. We recognize the presence of Richmond residents at the festival or their connections to loved ones there during the tragedy. We urge those distressed to seek help. To honor the victims, flags at City Hall will be flown at half-mast for the week starting April 28. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected, including the courageous first responders. – Mayor Malcolm Brodie, City of Richmond Support and Counseling If you or someone you know requires assistance, please reach out to the following resources: BC Mental Health Support Line – Call 310-6789 or visit crisiscentre.bc.ca for free, confidential support available 24/7.
