Residents invited to discover vital city services during annual event

The City of Richmond will offer an inside look at its critical services during the annual Public Works Open House, scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the City’s Operations Yard, 5599 Lynas Lane. The event will showcase various city services including water, flood protection, sewage, roads, parks, and culture.

“The City’s public works team is instrumental in maintaining Richmond’s infrastructure, keeping roads and dikes in good condition, and ensuring clean water and recycling services,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “This Open House is an excellent family outing, providing insights into our team’s efforts in making Richmond a thriving community.”

The free, outdoor event promises a day filled with interactive activities for all ages, rain or shine, featuring opportunities to explore heavy equipment, participate in the Kidstruction zone, and capture photos next to a Richmond Fire-Rescue fire truck. Attendees can learn about flood protection and other city initiatives at various department booths, enjoy live music, and get hands-on with planting at the potting station.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle to fill at portable water stations offering some of Canada’s finest drinking water. Food vendors will be available with meals and snacks for purchase. Due to limited parking, the city suggests walking, carpooling, cycling, or using public transit, with additional parking at Austria Club, Blair Elementary School, and JN Burnett Secondary School. Shuttles will run between the Operations Yard and JN Burnett Secondary School from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Wheel Watch will securely store bicycles, scooters, wagons, and strollers for free.
