2025 winners recognized for innovation and community impact
The City of Richmond, alongside the Richmond Arts Coalition, announced the recipients of the 17th annual Richmond Arts Awards, celebrating artists, cultural leaders, educators, businesses, volunteers, and change-makers for their contributions to the arts community. The awards showcase Richmond’s vibrant arts scene and emerging talent, with winners selected from 77 nominees across six categories by a committee of community members, artists, and professionals. Award recipients include Peter Grant for his detailed LEGO creations of historic Richmond buildings, Rita Kompst for her cedar weaving education, and Tourism Richmond for their ‘Pacific. Authentic.’ initiatives. Thomas Yu was honored for cultural leadership through events like the Richmond Summer Outdoor Arts & Crafts Festival, while Linda Shirley received recognition for her volunteerism in arts education and outreach. Youth recognition went to Isidora Hoi-Ching Chan, noted for contributions to animation and indie game development. The awards ceremony took place at Richmond City Hall Council Chambers on May 7 and featured a keynote by Morna Edmundson of Elektra Choir, along with musical performances.
