City launches engagement process to assess support and preferences for a community memorial space.
RICHMOND, May 12, 2025 (AP) — The City of Richmond is inviting residents to provide their input on the potential creation of a Memorial Garden, envisioned as an inclusive area for honoring and remembering loved ones. A six-week public engagement process has been launched to capture the diverse cultural, spiritual, and personal traditions that characterize Richmond’s community, gauge support for the Memorial Garden, and determine which features and amenities would be most valued. Residents can participate both online and in-person. Online participation is facilitated through the website LetsTalkRichmond.ca/MemorialGarden, where an online survey is available until 11:59 p.m. on June 22, 2025. In-person engagement will take place at four drop-in style open houses, offering residents a chance to discuss, question, and provide feedback, with multilingual staff present to assist. Open houses are scheduled for May 21 at Hamilton Community Centre, May 31 at West Richmond Community Centre, June 3 at Cambie Community Centre, and June 14 at Richmond Cultural Centre. The community’s input will help decide potential features of a Memorial Garden, with site-specific locations to be considered once the planning and design phase is initiated, pending future Council approval. The insights gathered will inform the next steps to be presented to the Council in the fall of 2025.
