Richmond aims to become Canada’s Most Active Community with a series of free events.
The City of Richmond invites participation in the 2025 ParticipACTION Community Challenge, aiming to mobilize the community to engage in physical activities throughout June.
Residents, workers, and visitors in Richmond can enjoy more than 90 free or low-cost activities designed for all age groups, promoting community-wide participation in this national initiative.
Richmond, recognized as a top performing community, was named British Columbia’s Most Active Community in 2022 and 2024, and ranked in the nation’s top 50 other years.
The challenge kicks off with a family-friendly event on June 7 at Thompson Community Park, featuring opening remarks from Mayor Malcolm Brodie, interactive booths, food trucks, and fitness demonstrations.
Activities include the Active One Step at a Time Bingo Card Challenge, Adventures Activity Booklet, Be All You Cambie Fun Run, and Cycle Fit classes, among others.
Participants can sign up for activities like Family Sports Day, Sassy Jazz Dance, Swimsafe for Newcomers, and Wing Chun Martial Arts throughout June.
Joining these programs, residents and businesses can pledge to stay active or register their events through the ParticipACTION website.
Tracking engagement with these events can help Richmond win weekly prizes from ParticipACTION, promoting its journey to becoming Canada’s Most Active Community.
The challenge, supported by Novo Nordisk and the Government of Canada, will name the most active community on July 21, with a reward of $100,000 for sports initiatives.
In 2024, over 1,250 communities participated in the challenge, joining 590,000 individuals nationwide, winning over $1 million in prizes.
