Connecting the Steveston docks to Garry Point, the new Fisher’s Walk, a project bringing together Tourism Richmond and the Steveston Harbour Authourity, has been opened by Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

The interpretive walkway, containing facts, art, wayfinding, and activities built around Steveston’s fishing heritage and present-day industry, was designed by Vancouver’s Lost and Found Design studio in collaboration with local groups.

The walkway includes sticker sheets and colouring flyers for kids, painted paths that show how to tie knots as you progress along the walk, and information on which sea creatures are found around BC, what time of year they’re in season, and how long a fathom is, among others.

While pedestrians can join the walk from either direction, it officially begns at the Steveston docks and,m through numbered stops, rolls past the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Museum, and down the road to Garry Point Park’s concession.

Though some of the final pieces of the walkway have yet to be put in place, including a large gateway sign by the Cannery, the fun has already begun.
