The City of Richmond invites residents to partake in National Seniors Day with free and low-cost events promoting healthy aging.

The City of Richmond is set to honor National Seniors Day on October 1 with a series of activities designed to engage the community and promote the well-being of older adults.

In collaboration with local organizations, Richmond will offer over 10 free or low-cost events across the city, such as floor curling, an indoor pickleball tournament, and a community walk through Minoru Park.

These events aim to foster social connections and physical activity, as well as celebrate the contributions of seniors to the community.

Coinciding with these events, Richmond will kick off its annual Positive Aging Campaign, showcasing five seniors who exemplify exceptional contributions and positive aging.

National Seniors Day, recognized in Canada and as the International Day of Older Persons by the UN, is an annual celebration held to honor the role of seniors in communities.

Pre-registration and drop-in options are available for the activities. Further information can be accessed at richmond.ca/PositiveAging or at Richmond’s community facilities.

Event highlights on October 1 include an Intergenerational Art Workshop, a Pickleball Tournament, a community walk in Minoru Park, a singalong session, and a try-it floor curling event.

The Positive Aging Campaign runs from October 1 to October 7 and aims to combat ageism by portraying positive images of aging within the community.

Richmond, acknowledged as an Age-Friendly B.C. Community in 2015, continues to support senior well-being through inclusive policies and programs. It was also recognized as Canada’s Most Active Community in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge 2025.

A variety of year-round programs for seniors are available, with seasonal guides accessible online or at Richmond community centers.
