RICHMOND, BC (June 28, 2025) — Anas Deqani, a recent graduate of Steveston-London Secondary who hopes to become a teacher, has been selected for a prestigious Beedie Luminaries scholarship worth $44,000 in recognition of outstanding leadership, academic success, and personal perseverance.
As one of 13 Richmond students chosen for the award, the graduate stands out among 280 recipients provincially, with the Beedie Luminaries Foundation granting a record $12 million in scholarships this year. The scholarship supports undergraduate studies, covering tuition, living expenses, and mentorship programming designed to assist students through university.
The recipient’s profile includes strong academic scores, active participation in school initiatives, and efforts to support peers in underrepresented communities. Overcoming personal adversity, the student has demonstrated significant resilience while actively engaging in mentorship and community building.
Plans are underway to begin post-secondary education at Langara College this fall, with intent to continue studies at the University of British Columbia in the teaching field. The scholarship is expected to play a crucial role in reducing financial barriers and enabling the student to focus on both academic and community goals.
